There many materials that are alternatives to more commonly used ones that work just as well as conventional materials. Whether the material is used for interior or exterior, construction or finishing's, or even just simple insulation, there is almost always a way to use a material that is better for the environment.

The list of materials below each have a brief description of what they are used for and what they are an alternative to. One important thing to keep in mind about green building materials is that although initial costs may be higher that a conventional material, long term cost generally come down, whether is be little need for maintenance, or cut backs in energy costs, almost always the materials not only help the environment, but the person using them as well.
